The donor programme involves donation of any one of the following:
- Sperm donation – In cases when a man is unable to produce sperms in quality or quantity needed for successful fertilization and pregnancy, donated healthy sperms can be used.
- Egg donation – In case a woman is unable to produce healthy eggs, she can use eggs donated by other healthy women. Eggs harvested from donor women are fertilized outside. The resultant embryo is implanted in the recipient mother after 2-3 cycles of hormonal therapy to make the womb competent for implantation.
- Embryo donation – When both the parents are infertile, they can opt for embryo donation. In this case, the egg and sperm are donated by a healthy donor couple. These are then fertilized outside in a test tube and the resultant embryo is implanted in the womb of the recipient mother.
